ABOUT PUDELPOINTERS

Pudelpointers are medium sized dogs that are between 22 and 26 inches at the shoulder and can weigh anywhere from 40 to 70 pounds. An average pudelpointer’s lifespan is 11 to 14 years.  Pudelpointers are either brown or black, and may have white markings on their chest and paws. A good coat is harsh and dense but nice to the touch. Pudelpointer tails are docked at 2/3 of the original length. Pudelpointers are good swimmers and love the water. These dogs have a nice temperament and love to please their owners, which makes them very enjoyable to work with and train.

PUDELPOINTER HISTORY:

The pudelpointer, first born in Germany, was bred to give hunters the ability to hunt both waterfowl and upland game with only one dog. It was comprised of 11 pudels and 80 pointers. The result was a loving and intelligent dog that’s good in the house, but has the drive and endurance that makes it the perfect versatile breed for both waterfowl and upland. In 1956, Sigbot Winterhelt, a world famous dog trainer, brought this versatile breed to North America. He started the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA) to protect this breed from becoming muddled in show breeding like many other hunting breeds.

PUDELPOINERS TODAY:

Today, pudelpointers are still a pure, versatile hunting dog that can be used for hunting both waterfowl and upland game.
